TIMMY
We took in a stray kitten and looked after him till a cat sanctuary could rehome him. The new owners called him "Timmy". This isn't him, but it looks a bit like him, hence the name for this portrait.
What do I think?:
I've sketched cats before but not in detail, not in colour and not from photo's. I have only had the confidence before to draw from other people's drawings. I'm pleased with how it came out, especially the eyes. The darkness makes it very 3D. There wasn't enough detail of his body in the photo & I don't feel able to fill that in myself. Too scared to ruin what I have. The confidence thing again!

saw your blog on the Blog Groups forum. You are quite talented. I wonder if you could turn this into a business. I have met people who think of their cats as children and would love the idea of a portrait.
I teach art in high school, though I do the computer graphics. But I work with several fine artsits.

Tom
Helena,
I second Tom's comments. You are a very talented artist. You should keep doing the animals. People really like to have portraits done of their pets and I think you do a fine job. Keep it up.
Chris
The eyes are quite striking, good job.
I like this one too. It makes me think of my friend in Florida who paints on tiles...wonder if that interests you at all? You can see her stuff via my website (she is linked there under artists I know and respect)
Anyhow wanted to check your site out since you checked mine out on the google help groups :)
keep drawing!!!
Self Taught Artist :)
Thank all for your encouraging comments. You have given me a boost and so I won't put my pencils away just yet ;^)
But it's very good ! What I do is taking photos of my cats (cats are the best models they have so many poses) or sometimes just rough drawings. With cats you have to be very quick (that's why photos are easier) because even if you think they are deeply asleep, suddenly the tail is on the other side, or the ear had moved. It's really a question of exercise. After a while you will draw cats in your sleep and then you can add or finish whatever you want by heart.
Excellent, keep those pencils sharpened, your confidence will only grow...............

Audrey
Thank you Gattina. I love your paintings and your comments mean a lot. I am so pleased, as well, to hear that it gets more instinctive!
