Updates..... and a bit of crafting =) and trying to draw Miss Peach!

The beautiful leaf colours around tell me that autumn has finally arrived here, yet today was like a spring day. Luvbug and I went off for a bike ride in just jeans, T-shirts and jumpers. -Still no need for coats for jackets.

This time of year has a strange light in the afternoon. It makes the late flowers glow, especially the red hot pokers, which seem to fluoresce.

It was nice to cycle past fields being ploughed- with flocks of gulls following the tractor along. And passing under trees as leaves are shedding and fluttering down.... it was all very Enid Blyton! When we got back, we worked out from the map that we'd done about 8 1/2 miles. That meant huge mugs of tea =)

Thanks for all the messages! The cold or flu, whatever it was, is out of my system now, I think.

I saw the doc aweek ago to get my test results, which were negative for everything. So no diabetes or any further thyroid problems. Hmmm. No clearer, then, as to weight gain and strange goings on in the running-to-the-loo department. As I had already noticed that wheat and sugar seem to make things worse, Doc advised I try strictly cutting these out.

So this is what I've been doing. I did it successfully for 8 days. I did fell less gurgly, less bloated, and the route to the loo was definitely less trod.

THEN! Oh dear. The "certain-time-of-the-month" demon crept up, whispering into my ear "SHOOOOOOOOOOGAR......SHOOOOOOGAR..... you MUST HAVE IT! YOU MUST!" and so on and so on till I gave in, some time in the middle of Friday night. (Sigh). I made toast- with non wheat bread- but slavered it all over in ginger jam. MmmMMmMMmmMMmm scrummy. Then, after about 15 minutes, it was HEY PRESTO! Gurgle gurgle, then orange poo. WHAT the????? I had to retreat to bed in a jumper and with a hot water bottle, as I was so cold and shivery, too.

Hmmm. A bit of a mystery, yes?

Here are a couple of Christmas cards I made this week. The poinsettia is an outline sticker, stuck onto coloured paper, then cut out and layered up with silicone glue.
The bear stamp was free with a magazine. Isn't it cute? I coloured it with water-colour pencil, but left a lot of it as pencil rather than wetting it. I love the way the cat is clearly happy, but the bear looks a tad annoyed with having to pull the sledge!
Here are two dragons, stamped and coloured with Promarkers. The larger dragon is a Whiff Of Joy stamp. Not sure about the other, as I bought it used, on Ebay last year. Does anyone know of a "how to" video on Promarkers? I'm sure I could get more out of them than I do, I'm not too good at shading and highlighting at the mo.

Lastly, I'm trying to draw Miss Peach:I'm not completely pleased with it yet, so I'll have another go. But as the first cat portrait I've done in a while, I think it's quite nice =)
I've also been working on tag books and I'm going to do a how-to post on them soon, but I want to send off the one I made for a present first =)

I am definitely in an 'up' in the zig zag at the moment. I am doing so many things all at once!!!

Hope you're all keeping warm and busy!
We are finally getting our central heating fixed- yippee! They start on 2nd November. This means it will be in by my birthday, the 8th. Luvbug even suggested it could be my birthday present. HAH! Nice try, buster!!!!

Dragon Card

This week has been far busier and gone far faster than I expected, so I haven't managed to add my new cards to the shop yet, nor think any more about opening an Etsy shop. (-Though I think I will do that... but anyway, watch this space....)

Here is a card I made last week but couldn't show you till the recipient had it- one of Luvbug's nephews, Eoghan (Irish spelling for "Owen"). His 12th birthday was yesterday...I used adhesive 'gems' and 'pearls' for some of the dragon's scales :) and typed out the greeting in MS Word and printed it straight onto the craft paper. These papers and card are from The PaperMill.

I really like how it turned out and have since heard that he liked it too :)

Another new stamp from Switzerland!

..... yeah I know, but I couldn't resist him. He's called Draco and he's a Whiff Of Joy dragon!!

In the above photo, the one made into a card was water-coloured, the other was done with my new Letraset ProMarkers. I did the scales on this one by colouring him pastel green, then going over this with the blender, then splodging dots in a darker green quickly before it dried. The effect looks like fuzzy felt. Click on the pic's and enlarge, to see what I mean.

I made that second one into an Easter card!
"Please can I have an Easter card with a dragon on it" wasn't the easiest request ever made but I really like the result!
I've trimmed the wings with a clear Sakura sparkle pen so that they shimmer. Pity it doesn't come out in the photo...

I think he's very cute! I'm glad I found him as I know so many people who like dragons!!

"Blog Candy"

Ever heard of Blog Candy? Before I got into the Crafty side of blogging, and the Crafters' community in Blogger, I hadn't heard of this! Maybe they are all just a really generous bunch!

Anyway, it simply means that someone is putting up a load of stuff -blog candy- FREE to one of his/her readers.

Bunny-Zoe is generously giving away these two Dragon Stamps in celebration of her birthday. To be in with a chance of winning, please visit her blog and, after you've enjoyed your browse around at all her clever crafty stuff, leave a comment on the Blog Candy post there, then put a post about it on your own blog.

The names of everyone who leaves a comment will be put into a hat and one name will be drawn at random 6pm today (GMT). She will post worldwide- so go for it!

This is the first blog candy draw I have taken part in- Dilly told me that if I didn't at least join in she would get me with her pointy stick!!!!

It's my birthday 8th November- maybe I should look around and see what I can put together for some Blog Candy of my own to give away :)

This week's card challenge

OK, enough of the sad stuff. Let's lighten up..... ;^)

Here is this week's layout challenge:

Even though the rules say you can turn it round and use it from any side up, I still had some trouble with this one! I just couldn't get those 3 circles in. So I compromised a wee bit!

I used:

  • dragon stamp from ebay- it's a Funstamps one
  • dragon is coloured with water colour pencils and then a little water
  • skeleton leaves coloured with chalk
  • brown "texture look" paper from a small booklet of assorted sheets by Artsy Collage
  • sky background torn from a large sheet by Dovecraft, Kate Knight floral
  • Zzzzs were cut from a piece of card that came in an enormous freebie pack with this month's Crafts Beautiful
  • "Have a relaxing birthday" - I wrote this in Print Shop, changed the shape, colour, etc., then printed out and cut out
  • Sakura pens have been used to do little raised dots and doodles around the Zzzzs
  • sparkly bits stuck on from the same freebie pack mentioned above
  • flower brad from a sheet of assorted ones from Tesco

As I said, I found the layout a challenge, - but I loved the opportunity to use the dragon stamp on the hump of a hill. LOL!!!! The layout made me think carefully how to use the dragon and I appreciated that.

Hope you like him!

ABC Wednesday......

N is for National Day..

Today is St George's Day, the patron saint of England, and is England's National Day.

I don't have a St George's flag. I do know where a few are being flown today, but thanks to a horrible cold virus I'm not going anywhere today...

I do, though, have a few dragons. So here you are. This is a Chessell Pottery dragon called Wilbur. Chessell no longer exists so as dragons go, he is quite rare. This is called "Wilbur's First Flight". Ahhh....
These little ones are called Norbert. Both of them. So I call them Norbert 1 and Norbert 2.
Happy St George's Day, to anyone with any Englishness in them!
