A Portrait, An Explanation.....

Oh dear!

I'd been waiting for the cloud to lift, to be able to post lots of newly-drawn pictures, or at least to write something better than this. But the truth is, I've been too low lately to contribute to this blog!

After 26 years of going through it in cycles, depression's side effects still come out of the blue to me (pardon the pun). Specifically, the way it sucks up my creativity like a big, black, merciless, dehydrayted slug.

However, if the light isn't dawning too well in my head yet, it at least shone on my new pencils for a few hours last week.

During a visit from my partner's sister, she gave us some lovely photo's of her daughter. I forget how old she is, four, I think. Anyway, I forgot to ask permission to put her photo here, so you won't be able to compare this one, I'm afraid. But here goes....

I don't think I quite caught her. But she still looks happy!

Hi Helena
What a great day - Alan Johnstone's release and seeing your new drawing. I'm really pleased that you've been able to pick up those new pencils. I'm in a bit of a crafty doldrum at the moment (no new bears and not much knitting) - seeing this today though I'm going to try to find time and space for me again.

Love to Bob!

Thanks, Liz!

YEs, I had been up last night, pootling about with this blog, putting in a new background etc. Took me AGES to get the stuff in the sidebar centred. And Alan Johnstone's link and picture proved temperamental. FINALLY got him lined up, then saw on the BBC news site that he'd been released. After the time I took on his link, I had to laugh!

Very good news. He looks very thin though. I bet it hasn't hit him yet that he's free....

Bob is hiding in his Thunder Shelter (my airing cupboard) cos there was a bit of thunder earlier....

)))sigh(((

LOL

Dear Helena,

Sorry it's taken me more than 24 hours to get to your site - but every single member of the family is on antibiotics at the moment, which is not a record I'd like to repeat.

I would never say you lacked creativity or the creative urge. I think you do an amazing job. Bob's site is always a treasure trove of cheer and bonhomie and it's wonderful to see your other talents here too, as I've said in the past.

I wish you a cloudless future, I wish you health, I wish you strength and friends from all round the globe (oh, no, wait, you've already got a huge fan club from around the globe).

Great sketch and I really look forward to more of your inspiring work.

God bless, my friend

David

Thanks for stopping by my blog, and the compliment. I take all the links I can get. :)

I'm sorry to hear that you've been depressed. Hope it lifts soon.

Love the drawings.

Thanks, Rachel!

"Kitchen Fire" is such a great name for a blog. That's what made me stop and read!

Nicely done.

This is what I would like to do--make pictures of kids (and then illustrate children's books!)

I hope the blue has lifted or does soon.

I struggle with the blues. :-(
