Mum

Mum, a couple of weeks ago, posing with her very first handmade card =)

Please keep things crossed for my mum. She had an MRI recently, to get to the bottom of her backache and general aches and pains. It revealed 3 "wedge fractures" in her spine.

This Thursday she is having another scan, which they expect will confirm osteoporosis.
It has been a big shock to everyone...... I had assumed this was an 'elderly disease', though now that I have read up on it I am shocked to discover that even children can get it. All the same, it was a shock to read that it can even be fatal, especially if you get a hip fracture.
She has lost tons of weight this year. The pain has put her off eating a lot of the time. Till now the doc's have just prescribed things like codeine. If your patient had gone from 133lb to 98lb in less than a year, and from slightly cuddly to a stick, wouldn't you notice? Ask why? Run some ******* tests for ****'s sake????
I hope she can move closer to us so that I can help her with stuff, check she's eating ok, etc. At the moment we are 2 hours away from her. -Not very good if she has a fall.

Meanwhile she has found a buyer for her house, and we are bringing her up to Colchester this Friday to view a flat that might be suitable. She is very nervous about moving, though we do keep trying to reassure her it will all be well. She is a chronic worrier. I just want her to be ok.

We are sending purrs for your Mom. My Mom is 88 and lives 2 1/2 hours away on family farm. My sister lives behind her in a trailer and I am thankful every day for that. She has had osteoarthritis since she was 40. She too has lost a lot of weight because she does not feel like eating. The back fractures seem to be an inevitability. They have given her nerve block shots in her back that helped, for a while. With her pain level, we don't care that she is addicted to prescription pain meds.

I hope your Mom will be happy being closer to you. I know it will help your stress level.

Of course you want her near you! The poor thing must be so fed up wit the constant pain. When dotors are good, they're good. When they're not...
Keeping you all in my thoughts.

I hope your Mum is soon settled near to you, it will be so much easier for you all. I don't know much about osteoporosis but it must be very worrying for you and your Mum. A friend of mine at my art group has it (a man) and has quite a bit of pain but is able to get out and about. I hope the doctors will be able to help your Mum.

Thank goodness that they are 'on your mum's case' at last. I hope they are able to do something to help.
Sending love and hugs. Lynda

Awe I am so sorry to hear about your mom and will think of her. I know how she feels as I have had osteoporosis for 20 years now and trouble with my back and some times the pain is dreadful but I do mild exercise which helps. Will be thinking of you and your mom.
Hugs Linda

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum, Helena. I will be thinking of her and hoping that all will be better for her soon. It would make things easier, I'm sure, if she could live closer to you.
